Diagnostic Decoding Surveys Workshop – ½ day

The Diagnostic Decoding Surveys are the first step in determining whether students have decoding weaknesses and could benefit from the type of instruction offered in Phonics Blitz and Boost.

This half-day workshop helps attendees gain an understanding of:

  • Data-driven instruction
  • Importance of using Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) as a screening assessment
  • Importance of including reading accuracy in an ORF screening measure
  • Importance of diagnosing specific weaknesses to drive appropriate instruction
  • Administration and scoring rules that govern the Beginning and Advanced Diagnostic Decoding Surveys
  • How the data obtained from the Surveys are used to group students and plan effective, systematic instruction

RGR recommends that all teachers or staff members who teach Phonics Blitz or Phonics Boost attend this workshop, especially those who will be assessing students. However, this workshop is also helpful to teachers who do not assess students. Familiarity with the assessment process helps teachers understand students’ decoding skills needs and the rationale for the lessons.
